In my last piece, I made the case for why I think Putin is setting the stage for an attack on NATO — specifically, I believe his target will be Latvia.

For my new readers, I should make the disclaimer that I’m not typically an alarmist or doom-writer. But I’m starting to feel like writers Umair Haque or Jessica Wildfire these days — well-known for their oft-depressing content.

I’m not throwing shade here; I genuinely admire their work.

But two events are increasingly becoming more likely as we make our way through 2024.

As I watch modern events unfold, while looking through the lens of my experience as an intel forecaster, my formal education in Russian studies, and my time in the US military, I’m starting to get the heebie-jeebies.

Note: For my non-American readers, “heebie-jeebies” is slang from 1910 meaning a feeling of anxiety or apprehension. Attributed to American cartoonist Billy DeBeck.

I believe there will be an attack against NATO and widespread political violence in the US (no matter who wins the November Presidential election.) In fact, these two events will likely be connected — with Russia waiting for one before initiating the other.
