Ukraine Hackers Breach 500+ Russian Military Bases
Turns out “борщ” is not a very effective password…
A Ukrainian group of hackers affiliated with the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine agency, or GUR, successfully broke into Russia’s Ministry of Defense and mined 1.2 terabytes of classified data.
Last week, the hacker group known in Ukraine as “Blackjack,” snuck into the Russian military organization responsible for construction contracts at more than 500 Russian military bases.
This data includes highly detailed maps of Russian sites across Russia and in occupied Ukraine.
What’s more, Blackjack mined essential data about Russian military command and control, air defense installations, and weapon storage sites.
To add insult to injury, the hackers disabled seven Russian servers and encrypted or froze over 150 Russian contractor’s computers.
Both sides have been increasing cyberattacks against the other — earlier this month Business Insider reported that Russia had hacked into Kyiv surveillance cameras to pick targets for its coordinated missile attack.
