Donald Trump is reportedly in talks with European allies about using private American military contractors in Ukraine as part of a peace framework with Russia.

This is the political version of “I promised no US troops, but hey, what if those boots belong to someone on a corporate payroll?”

The idea is simple: put American passport holders in Ukraine, not under the Stars and Stripes but under logos like Triple Canopy or Academi (Blackwater with its fifteenth rebrand).

These contractors would fortify positions, build bases, guard US corporate investments in Ukraine’s reconstruction, and serve as a deterrent to Putin. Shoot at one of them, and suddenly the White House has “skin in the game.”

Sound familiar? It should. This is straight out of the Iraq and Afghanistan playbook, where thousands of contractors filled gaps the US military couldn’t, or wouldn’t, cover. The Telegraph, Bloomberg, and every European outlet with a NATO beat are buzzing about it, because the workaround fits Trump’s narrative: no American troops while still keeping Putin second-guessing.
