Analyzing the Destruction of a Russian Strategic Bomber by a Ukrainian Drone

The Moscow Times claims Russia doesn’t have the manufacturing capacity to build more, so every destroyed Russian bomber is a big loss for Russia and a big win for Ukraine.

On the morning of August 19, Ukraine destroyed one of Russia’s long-range strategic bombers using a drone to strike a Russian airfield in Novgorod Oblast.

Located between Saint Petersburg and Moscow, the airfield is just north of the town of Soltsy, about 400 miles from the Ukrainian border.

Interestingly, this Newsweek article covering the story is using images and video of the wrong Russian airfield — 978 miles away in Engels.

I could make a joke about editorial standards, or lack thereof, but then I’ve made mistakes in the past. Glass houses and all that…

The correct airfield, shown below, reportedly had 10 Tu-22M3 bombers at the airfield at the time of the attack.

Although The Moscow Times claimed one was destroyed, the Telegram channel ‘Ateo Breaking’ said that two aircraft rather than one had been damaged.
