The Real Reason Why the Kremlin Claims Ukraine Tried to Assassinate Putin
Russia says it downed two drones that hit the Kremlin in Moscow last night and accused Ukraine of attempting to kill Putin.
Ukraine said it had nothing to do with the drone strikes.
Let’s take Ukraine at its word because, well, Moscow has absolutely no credibility at this point. So, if we assume that this was a faked attempt by Russia, what would Putin have to gain?
The answers are uncomfortable to contemplate.
Historically, Russia has used what are called “false flag” operations to escalate direct action and achieve an outcome favorable to Moscow.
A false flag operation is an act committed with the intent of disguising the actual source of responsibility and pinning blame on another party. The term “false flag” originated in the 16th century as a naval expression signaling an intentional misrepresentation of someone’s allegiance.
