Russia Uses “Barge Barrier” to Block Ukrainian Drones Near Kerch Bridge

Imagine your name is Sergei Korolev, the First Deputy Director of Russia’s powerful KGB-successor agency — the Federal Security Service (FSB).

In October of 2022, after the first major Ukrainian attack on Putin’s prized project, the Kerch Strait Bridge, Putin himself appointed you in charge of the bridge’s security.

Putin ordered the FSB to take charge of security measures for the strategic bridge after a truck bomb damaged the structure linking Russia to occupied Crimea and dealt a humiliating blow to the Kremlin’s prestige.

You, Korolev, now look at the impossible task before you…

If you fail, you are keenly aware of the consequences; you’ll likely have an “accident” and fall out of a high-rise building in Moscow — like you have orchestrated for Putin’s enemies many times before.

You feel confident in the air defense assets at your disposal.

You’ve assigned several units of S-400 Triumfs to guard against those damn Storm Shadow cruise missiles from the UK, and any of the new long-range ATACMS that Ukraine has received from the Amerikantsy.

You’ve mitigated the risk of future truck bombs by requiring vehicle inspections for every car and truck before they’re allowed to cross the bridge — unless pre-cleared military or intelligence assets.
