Russia Says The U.S. is Making Secret Ukrainian Mutant Soldiers

It’s a headline that sounds like it was ripped straight from a satire article on The Onion.

According to reporting by Kommersant, one of Russia’s leading liberal business newspapers, on Monday the Russian Federation Council held a meeting to investigate the activities of American biological labs in Ukraine.

After performing blood tests on Ukrainian POWs, Russia concluded that Ukrainian soldiers were subjected to “secret experiments” and were turned into “the most cruel monsters.”

Following the meeting of the parliamentary commission on July 18, its co-chairs, vice-speakers of the Federation Council and the State Duma, Konstantin Kosachev and Irina Yarovaya, shared with journalists results of the “investigation.”

Yarovaya claims to have found drugs that increase aggression and alter consciousness in Ukrainian soldiers.

“And those performance enhancing drugs that they are still given in order to completely neutralize the last traces of human consciousness and turn them into the most cruel and deadly monsters also confirm this.”

In addition, Russia claims that Ukrainian soldiers’ blood tested positive for Hepatitis A and West Nile Virus, and said this was proof that the U.S. secretly experimented on Ukrainian soldiers.

Wars are rarely fought sober

To Ms. Yarovaya’s credit, wars are rarely fought sober. In fact, I’ve written about how in every war for the past 2000 years, armies have found a way to either enhance performance, dull the pain, or get some liquid courage.

Some Roman soldiers drank wine before battle, the British issued rum rations to sailors in the Royal Navy, and the U.S. gave whiskey to soldiers during the Civil War.
