Putin’s Winter Plan for Ukraine Could Bring Europe to its Knees
Let’s perform a thought experiment — picture President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin waking up at 2:30 AM in a cold sweat.
There’s nobody around to hear his propaganda; he’s alone with his thoughts about Ukraine.
Does such a man lie to himself to convince his conscious that he’s made the right decision to invade Ukraine?
Or, ever the pragmatist, is he honest with himself?
“Dear God, I really наломать дров this Ukraine business.” (Loosely translated as ‘Mangle the firewood’ or screw the pooch)
Either answer yields the same ultimate result: Putin will double-down on his special military operation, despite Pentagon estimates that 80,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded to date.
He can’t show weakness of purpose if he wishes to remain in power.
But despite continuing his illegal occupation, he must realize that the war has to end at some point.
Putin is likely counting on the harsh winter to come to Russia’s rescue once again, as it did against Napoleon’s forces, and the Germans in the Great Patriotic War.
Imagine it’s January 2023.
