Prominent Russians Keep “Falling” Out of Windows
In case you missed it, the chairman of Russia’s second largest oil producer, and vocal critic of Putin’s war in Ukraine Ravil Maganov, died today after falling from a sixth-floor hospital window.
In March, Maganov published a statement that read in part, “We strongly support a lasting ceasefire and a settlement of problems through serious negotiations and diplomacy,” and called for the “soonest termination of the armed conflict.”
But this isn’t the first time a prominent Russian has accidently fallen out of a high-rise window to their death.
In late 2021, Yegor Prosvirnin — the founder of nationalist website Sputnik and Pogrom — died after falling out of the window of an apartment building in Moscow.
Prosvirnin was very vocal about a coming Russian civil war and the collapse of the Russian Federation.
That same year, Russian diplomat and suspected FSB officer Kirill Zhalo was found dead after “accidently” falling out of a window at the Russian embassy in Berlin.
It’s unclear if he made any criticisms of the Putin regime before his accident, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s likely he upset someone up the chain.
