Could Russia Actually Take Kharkiv?
Exactly two years ago, Russia got to within artillery range of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in Northeastern Ukraine.
Against overwhelming odds, Ukrainian forces pushed back the attackers and denied Putin one of his key early war aims.
Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city and sits only 30 kilometers south of the Russian border.
Now, Russia has opened a second front against Ukraine with Russian troops taking several key villages in the north as they make another attempt on Kharkiv.
Whether this is a feint to draw Ukrainian forces away from Chasiv Yar and the area of Avdiivka, or a legitimate attempt to take Kharkiv before Ukraine can fully bring to bear its incoming US aid, is unknown.
Regardless, Ukraine is taking this threat seriously and taking steps to defend Kharkiv once again.
As of today, Russia has taken the village of Lukiantsi which is only 10km from Lyptsi.
If Russia takes Lyptsi, then they will be in artillery range of Kharkiv once again.
Keep in mind that this situation is developing rapidly and could be different tomorrow.
