‘Another Brick in the Wall’ of Russian Disinformation
I LOVE Pink Floyd.
Well, at least the albums Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall — their early work is a little too abstract for me.
Music fans know well the story of former Pink Floyd songwriter, vocalist, and bassist Roger Waters’ ugly split from the band in 1985.
While Waters can rightly claim to be the mastermind behind much of Pink Floyd’s success in the 1970s and 1980s, his fragile ego just couldn’t handle another bandmember’s (David Gilmore’s) increasing popularity.
Last week, Waters gave an incendiary interview to the German newspaper Berliner in which he repeats, nearly word for word, pro-Kremlin talking points.
Specifically, he praised Vladimir Putin’s leadership.
Why, Roger, why?!
Thanks to the publicity from his Berliner interview, the Russian government approached Waters and asked him to speak at the UN to the 15-member Security Council.
Waters spoke to those assembled at the UN by video, with his dog, from his home in Switzerland where he condemned Ukrainian “provocateurs” in the strongest possible terms.
