A Coup to Remove Putin is Underway and it’s Unstoppable — According to Insider

This week, Insider reported they received information from Ukraine’s military intel chief that a coup to overthrow Russian President Vladimir Putin is underway.

What’s more, Major General Kyrylo Budanov told Sky News that this coup is “impossible to stop.”

Certainly, all of the elements are in place for a coup d’état (French for ‘stroke of state’) — economic decline, a faltering military, officer and oligarch grievances, and Putin’s alleged failing health, among other things.

However, Putin has spent the better part of twenty years making his regime “coup proof” by devising mechanisms to protect himself from, ahem, “unceremonious removal.”

So, is this coup just western wishful thinking? Or is there a real chance at regime change in Russia?

Russia has a not-so-subtle history of the seizure and removal of government leaders

Perhaps the most famous Russian coup was the Russian Revolution which toppled the Romanov dynasty in October of 1917. A year after Tsar Nicholas II abdicated his authority, the Bolsheviks murdered the Tsar, his family, and their closest retainers.
