3 Months In — Putin is Running Out of Options

Three months into what was supposed to be a three-day special military operation to “de-nazify” Ukraine, UK’s defense ministry said Russia’s military campaign “has stalled on all fronts”.

Usually when someone starts a conversation with “I just want to manage expectations…” you know disappointment is about to follow.

When Putin had the grand idea to invade his sovereign neighbor, his military leadership should have started the conversation with ‘managed expectations’.

Unfortunately, none of Putin’s advisors had the balls to tell him the truth about the Russian military’s failed modernization. After all, the generals were in the best position to know that the promised funding to upgrade their military wasn’t arriving as planned.

As a result, Putin’s generals sent thousands of young Russian men into the meat grinder in the hopes that Russia’s long-standing tradition of quantity over quality would win the day.

Perhaps they were hoping that Ukraine would simply fold in the face of overwhelming force.

But that’s not what happened.

And “hope” is not a military strategy.

Having failed to secure Kyiv or overthrow Ukraine’s democratically elected government, the Russian military has now redeployed to Eastern Ukraine in the hopes of securing a small victory against the Ukrainian defenders.
